    • The Modern Green Belt

      (submitted by Ms Jenny Loh)
I live right across from the KTM railway track and feel so heartened to see recent throngs of family with kids, groups of cyclists, students, senior couples taking daily stroll on the railway track, esp at sunset. However I also understand that they must make way for redevelopment, maybe at very high values for the commercial, residentials and leisure market. This suggestion below may sound ridiculous (but hey, I've also been known for delivering impossibly multi-partied creative ideas in my professional life) so I hope you may give it a chance to be heard:

      • Future high speed rail from KL to S'pore

        (submitted by Mr Simon)
I fully support the idea of leaving this land undeveloped as I believe once SEA matures should the idea of a HSR transit between KL - Singapore become true it will be easier to tunnel under undeveloped landmass. Similar to London the HSR should bring visitor direct to the heart of the city

        • Markers denoting the distance from Malaysia at different points

I remember walking along the railway last year before the area was closed off and was wondering as I walked the trail, where exactly was I? How far away from JB were we?

I think that it would be interesting if there are markers along the trail that denote the distance from Malaysia. After all, the railway was one of the traditional methods of transportation from Singapore to Malaysia and marking out the distance gives us a different perspective from where we are standing today, which will enrich our overall experience with the old railway.

          • Keep part of the Bukit Merah Spur line as an entry point to the Rail Corridor.

The very old abandoned railway from Jalan Bukit Merah (next to NEA premise) would make an idea entry point to the Rail Corridor.
It is a belt of serene trees and shrubs off Jalan Bukit Merah and enters the Rail Corridor adjacent to Bukit Merah Lane 3.

            • A Suspended Bridge from Bukit Batok Nature Park to the Rail Corridor

Judging from the popularity of the Tree Top walk in MacRitchie, a similar but wider suspended bridge could be built linking Bukit Batok Nature Park to the Rail Corridor.

This bridge being elevated would provide a scenic view of the Bukit Batok Nature Park and Bukit Timah hill in its entirety. Imagine watching the mist rising from the forest canopies of this 2 hills.
This bridge could be connected to the Upper Bukit Timah Fire station - now unoccupied.
With more people using this bridge, this old fire station can be revived as a hub for nature activities, food and…

              • Install subterranean infrastructure

(submitted by Mr A Hart - suggestion extract)
In the UK we used a similar situation to install water ducts; Fiber optic cables; etc under the paths; as they were clear runs making installations very simple and cost effective; you could sell the sub tera space ?

                • Erect a huge Flag Pole for the Nation

On Ndp every Singaporean feels so touch when we see our Huge National Flag fly past and the first time there was a flag raising ceremony at the parade. how nice if we also continue the flag raising ceremony daily like all schools in Singapore, not discontinue anymore when we grow up. Place like Beijing , Taipei , KL , Hong Kong, all have the similar huge flag pole with flag raising ceremony as national identification and part of Nation Education to their fellow citizen, more respectful to the National Flag , Nation Anthem, code of arm etc. Singapore need…

                  • Camping

There is a lack of open camping areas in Singapore.
A few spots for camping would be useful for school groups going on a learning journey along the rail corridor.
It is too physically demanding to trek the entire length in a day.
It will be nice to spend a night out in the wilderness along the rail corridor.

                    • Use rail corridor to improve sustainability/ self sufficiency

                      (submitted by Mr Hanson Ho)
The Green Corridor. Green here not only refers to the continuous greenery as the longest linear public park in Singapore for recreation. We have already secured our water supply; this could be a living test-bed lab for research into energy and food culture as well for future self-sustainability.

                        • Optimal and multiple uses of the rail corridor

There is no need to preserve the entire stretch of the rail corridor for one particular function. Because it crosses the length of Singapore, each area that it traverses has developed around it with individual uniqueness. The more remote areas where it is located a distance away from housing may be used for bio-diversity or green belt functions for the propagation of our fauna and flora while those areas located near densely populated areas could be used as walking or bicycle trails or even community herb gardens. Some parts of the rail corridor especially within the city limits might do…

                          • Hold a landscape design competition.

                            (Submited by Mr Dylan Quek)

URA/NParks should hold a landscape design competition; maybe divide the length of the park into 5 sectors and have 5 teams design each sector. Makes for a more interesting experience throughout the park. Maybe the tanjong pagar train station can serve as a recreational facility too.
