  1. Create a Bicycle Highway

Bicycle Highway can be found in many countries in Europe. In recent years, there are also plans to build such bike highways in California.
Bicycle Highway differs from PCN in the sense that the lanes are wider and there are more than one lane in both directions. This allow faster cyclist to overtake and allow casual cyclist to cruise on the slower lane . Another feature that can be considered to a bike highway is to have entrance/exit points at every X km (example 3km) so as to minimize the disruption of incoming traffic for long distance travellers.

    • practical intervention with minimal interruption

i feel that we should keep the corridor as "wild" as possible in terms of path and greenery, and allow the visitors to the corridor use it to the limits of their imagination, and appreciate how amazing it already is.

rarely in singapore do we have a true "trekking trail" that is so ready-made and nicely furnished with nature yet set in an urban environment.

by this, i mean that while rest stops and toilets are indeed practical, they shouldn't overshadow the nature and the corridor itself.

furthermore, i think the "heritage" aspect of the corridor is important and should…

Please keep the whole track from North to South as a walking and cycling track. Link it up to other PCN (connector paths) and let NP run it. Leave it alone as much as possible, but at the 2 old stations (& also closer to Woodlands) you could take the idea from London and let people borrow/rent bikes. People could also use this track to commute to the work in the city if some extra safe path ways are added on at the end.

        • Leave the corridor largely untouched

(submitted by Ms Lam Wei Ting)

Hi; I hope there are minimal changes. If there shd be one; probably just a park connector; on the previous tracks. The corridor shd be left untouched; not just for us; but also for the flora n fauna. Other parks r nice; but too artificial. The more "untouched" place will be Pulau Ubin; but too far.

          • Green Lifestyle, peaceful, Relax Corner. Don't forget our historical Stories...

Create rail cycling along the tracks, commuters are able to cycle at their own pace to enjoy the peaceful and green scenery, allows locals and tourist a chance to explore the history of the Railway, which some did not have the chance to do so when the trains were previously around. Buildings along the tracks, shall be conserved for historical purposes. Besides rail cycle, bicycle tracks and commuters pathway should be created. Along the tracks, some lands can be use for education spots, simple resort within a train cabin, allows commuters to feel the fresh air and enjoy wildlife living,…

            • An Extensive Ready-Made Eco-Link connecting North-South and West

The Green Corridor potentially can serve as a nature connector linking Mandai Mangrove in the North to Southern Ridge in the South.

              Along this N-S connector:
              - estuarine mangrove river of Pang Sua,
              - the primary forest of Bukit Timah Nature Reserve,
              - extensive secondary forest of Clementi Woodlands
              - pockets of woodlands in Portsdown, Alexandra and Spottiswoode

              To the West:
              - pockets of woodlands and farms along the old Jurong Line.
              - the estuarine mangrove river system of Jurong River
              - Jurong Lake parklands.

              • I would like to suggest that we keep the green corridor as much as possible as it is in order not to destroy the existing biodiversity. Howe

I would like to suggest to preserve the green rail corridor as much as possible as it is. However, do consider to provide more that adequate provision for cyclists such as ample space for bicycle lanes, separate from pedestrians. This is to help create a safe environment for cyclists using this green spine to actually commute (I don't mean cycling for exercise or recreation only) between north and south of Singapore. Let this green be an alternative mode of transport. In the long run, this may help cut down reliance on other motorised mode of transport. Currently, East Coast Parkway…

                • Research, review, engage, educate. No shopping malls and atas cafes.

Commission botanists, ecologists, biologists etc to do a proper study of the biodiversity and ecological make-up before launching any projects. keep sections which are ecologically important as they are with replanting projects if necessary. Areas which serve as corridors for animal crossing should be not be developed at all. those identified to be of lesser importance can have various community projects to engage and educate. Please don't build shopping malls! and please don't turn the tanjong pagar railway station into another atas place like chjimes.

                  • A cycling and running path. Don't pave it. Keep it as a dirt or gravel road. Line the path with trees to provide shade to the users.

Path will be a dirt or gravel road, flat and beginner friendly for cyclists and runners. With big and beautiful trees lining the path, it will provide adequate shade to the users.

                    • Community gardens & nature should be reserved

Whatever is done to it, it should not become like the sanitised park connectors that already exist. It should have an atmosphere of "all of nature wild and free" (to borrow a line from a Madonna song), a rustic feel from the former Singapore. People should be allowed to continue their informal vegetable gardens and pluck fruits from wild fruit trees. Urbanised Singaporeans need to interact more with nature in order to understand it better. How can Singapore be green unless it's citizens have a feel of how nature works?

i prefer you make into a cycling park from the tanjong pagar railway station to bukit timah bridge railway track..... so those who love cycling dont need cycle at roadside with the cars.... those cycling lovers have a safe place to cycle.... beside cycling it can use it as a running track for those who love running.... and government can organize some exercise event like running to promote healthy lifestyle exercising....
along the track those people who use the track can see the natural sceneries

                            • Fence off pockets for wildlife-only use

                              (submitted by Claire Goh)

I think as part of the design for the rail corridor, pockets of greenery could be left completely untouched and in fact fenced off (either the entire year or during important times of year e.g. breeding season) like in Kew Gardens. People can see in - via perhaps a small viewing window/ binoculars provided - but not intrude and disturb any wildlife there. These pockets however ought to be connected and not simply isolated plots.

Other than just conserving the existing vegetations, there should be some replanting schemes/ guidelines too.

I think Government should undertake some Biodiversity Studies to understand how to create the ideal habitats for different kind of animals/ insects and strategically plan it along the rail line to create a continuous biodiversity corridor. Keep this place vibrant, lively, attractive and people can find surprises everywhere!!

                                    • A green belt of flora and fauna for nature lovers

The Green Corridor should be a place for biodiversity studies and for education on our flora and fauna. It should act as link-way for little creatures to encourage the fair distribution on our island: with butterfly food plants and nectar producing plants strategically placed for meandering butterflies and sunbirds and fruit trees for squirrels.

Some common weeds and grass are pretty to look at where they flourish together. Stretches of grasslands should not be mown too often so that weeds like Tridax procumbens (Coat button), Phyllanthus urinaria (Dukong Anak), and those of the Acanthus family have a chance to grow…

                                      • Make it a nature park

I got the idea after visiting Admirity park last friday. When I visited the park, it seems as if I have stepped into the former Singapore before all kinds of development, aka those days when primary forests still flocked Singapore.

Probably because Geography is my elective subject, the visit to Admirity park is an enrichment to me, with up-close-and-personal encounters to some of the nature beauties, such as the roots of mangrove forests, parasitic plans and etc. Perhaps the authorities can make the railway land into something like this, either by leaving the railway land alone or by making the railway…

                                        • Green Belt - A viable alternative

Every progressive desirable city to live in has a green belt. Take Vancouver's Green Zone as a good example. A green belt can be a cycling track,or a well-kept grassy walking trail to allow stressed out city folks the chance to unwind, exercise, interact, explore, and commune. Furthermore, a well thought out park connector will allow Singaporeans, especially the aged, handicapped and young children to commute to various parts of Singapore without taking to the roads. This offers a viable environmentally conscious alternative for commuters and a valuable opportunity for tourists and travellers to discover Singapore in a novel and…
