  1. Battlefield Archaeology

All over the world archaeologists are excavating the sites of WWII battles, just as the last generation of people who remember the war are leaving us. This is a great opportunity for a "memory park" which would also boost the growth of archaeology in Singapore, and educate future generations about the unique history of the island.

    • Develop with balance in mind

Much as I love Nature, I feel that I was contributing to soil erosion or soil degradation when I was cycling along the muddy patches of the Green Corridor earlier this afternoon. Parts of the trail were difficult to walk or cycle through as the soft wet mud crisscrossed with tyre marks spanned the entire width of the trail. This is one reason I don't mind parts of the Green Corridor being "developed", at least not to the other extreme of being paved with artificial impermeable material such as concrete or asphalt like in the case of PCNs but at…

      • Pave the running and cycling path to reduce accidents

The path should be a smooth, padded path to reduce the number of knee and ankle accidents if Singapore is serious in encouraging everybody to keep fit including the young and the old. This is an ideal place for a lot of walkers, runners and joggers to exercise. The advice of sports consultants could be sought to reduce the number of sports-related injuries. Those who are interested to train for international marathons could use this route as well.

          • Sound proof Tanjong Pagar Railway Station from Keppel Road

Currently, the background noise at Tanjong Pagar Railway Station is very high due to the Keppel Road nearby. Sound proofing the highway to minimise the noise pollution can further enhance the green space at the station area. It can be done by introducing noise barrier on the side of the highway.

How about a simple small-scale above-ground railway line to connect the entire length of the rail corridor - in an unintrusive manner, for people to explore either the entire length of the corridor or to travel to parts that are of interest to them. Not all visitors are able to or interested in cycling or walking long distances. This will help avoid turning attractions into only a local one for residents around it to enjoy. The railway will turn the entire corridor into a single attraction. It can be a tourist attraction too. Train stops with facilities to serve visitors…

              • Taking the concept of The Highline and applying it o a local context

While creating a bicycle highway is a great idea, I thought that the Highline Project from New York is a fabulous example to maintain biodiversity richness or even adds on to the diversity of it by allowing a shared space for both wildlife, the flora and fauna as well as human interactions together. By taking the concept out of the Highline project, it also rejuvenate and renew the rail corridor to an attraction, preserve its heritage value but also create an activity spot for habitats to grow and the public to use it within means of a personal space,a recreational…

                • A bicycle/walking trail by day. A vibrant night market in the night.

My suggestion for Rail corridor is as below.

                  1. A walking trail cum bicycling path during the day time.
                  2. A vibrant flee market at the night without taking away the nature's charm. (This can be along the station's as people walk through the trail)

I believe this can bring a lot of benefits.

                  1. In the day it can act as a beautiful trail for families and cyclists to explore the wilderness of Singapore.
                  2. In the night time it can serve as a vibrant flee market which can reignite the 'Kampung spirit' in Singapore and Singaporeans.
                  This can…

                  • Maintain ground cover, ensure adequate year round food resources

In tropical rainforests, the areas of greatest biodiversity are found at its fringes or at the edges bordering waterways as the availability of unimpeded sunlight allows for the greatest growth and variety of plant and hence animal life.

Our Rail Corridor serves a similar function as a river, opening up areas to sunshine on both sides of the path. This allows for a greater variety of plant types and thus habitats for the fauna: insects, birds and animals.

Ideally, the central path should have a clear area of at MOST 3 meters on either side or 1 to 2 meters…

                    • Doing lease for more.

The stretch from Hillview to Tanjong Pagaer should not be develop. Let nature take it course but should build some hut in case of thunder rain. The same goes for the stretch from Chua Chu Kang towards Woodlands.

The part from Bukit Panjang to Hillview can be develop into some fun ride on the rail.

This corridor is precious to Singapore as it cuts through many areas with different cultures, bio-diversities along it's path. Singapore lacks a dedicated, uninterrupted network for joggers, cyclists and this spine span from the south to the very north where the causeway is. It can coexist with many urban development along its path. Sidewalk cafes, urban residential areas, commercial offices, fishing ponds, reservoirs, park connectors can be integrated into this spine bring colours and variety of experiences to its users, be it a jogger, a cyclist, an elderly enjoying a leisurely stroll near his HDB flat, or a group of…

Create a green rail PCN by preserving as much as possible of the flora and fanua, integrate certain space for outdoor activities and commercial outlets at interval stretch . An example is shown below.

This is a very good way to introduce people to cycle to work, school or play safely from the north to the south! They should also includes some form of shelter with solar panels on the top to shield the users be it cyclists or pedestrians, while at the same time generate solar energies.

                                • Keep its charm.

I'd say keep it as is with proper drainage. Open up the TP station for retail and F&B, but PLEASE, keep out the syndicated F&B outlets and bring back the kampong style canteens/stalls. Keep rental low as possible to allow these places to flourish. By doing so, it will bring people from all walks of life to explore the corridor.

The Rail Corridor may be a good site for large public artwork that generates clean energy for the city. Some interesting ideas can be found at http://landartgenerator.org/

                                      • Build a Group of Small Cafes or Bookstores

My suggestion is to build a cafe or bookstore along the way.

In the morning people exercising, jogging or strolling can have cup of hot coffee or tea in a very cool and nice environment. However building should be environmentally friendly.Nowadays building are to modernized,so I suggest that the design of the building blends in with the nature.

Also bookstore along the way can let people have a peace of mind to read and buy books.

Also the pathway along the corridor shouldn't be upgrade to much, a simple carpet grass that wouldn't affect the nature environment. The pathway should be light up…

                                        • Build a cafe.

People can enjoy their coffee and the nature at the same time to relax themselves. Pictures and information of the past railway tracks and trains can also be pasted on a board. The board can be placed anywhere beside the railway tracks.
